I wanted a better health dashboard than whats available out there, so I vibe coded one! I’ve been taking vibe coding pretty far lately, and my latest project is something I wanted for myself.

Introducing: Daily, a food and activity journal I built using ChatGPT, Codex, and ChatGPT Sites!

I haven’t been a fan of how Fitbit has changed over the years. Apple Health collects plenty of useful information, but getting a simple view of the specific things I want to track feels harder than it should. And MyFitnessPal? It's a shadow of what it used to be.

So I decided to build something about it. Daily brings together food logging, calories, carbs, fat, protein, steps, weight history, and estimated daily energy expenditure (TDEE). I can see my food intake against my estimated burn, review trends, reuse favorite foods, and look back at previous days. It works in a browser on a computer, tablet, or phone, and you can add it to your phone/tablet’s home screen.

I built it through a lot of conversation, testing, and revision. My personal version also connects with ChatGPT and my Apple Health data. The conversation happens in ChatGPT, not inside Daily. I can talk about what I ate, ask for guidance, review my activity, and have ChatGPT save entries to the journal. That combination was a big part of why I wanted to create this.

Unfortunately, making those integrations available to everyone would require a separate hosting and distribution setup that I don’t currently have the means to support. Those features remain part of my personal version.

But I can share the browser-based journal! Anyone who wants to try it can sign in with their own ChatGPT account and manually log food, enter daily step totals, track weight, and see estimated TDEE and calorie deficit or surplus. Signing in identifies your account; it doesn’t connect your ChatGPT conversations.

That doesn’t mean you can’t still take advantage of AI, even if this version of Daily doesn’t have AI built in! I recommend opening a conversation with your favorite AI platform and telling it what you’re eating. You can ask it to estimate calories, break down macronutrients, and help you figure out what to log in Daily. Even better, you can upload nutrition information from your favorite restaurants or food products and let AI do the heavy lifting! It can help you interpret the nutritional information, estimate portions, and make tracking your meals in Daily much easier. You still get the benefits of AI-assisted food tracking, just with an extra step!

It’s been a lot of fun building something that adds value to my everyday life. If it happens to be useful to someone else too, even better.
